
James F. Townsend passed away on November 18, 2016. He was born in Independence, MO, on October 26, 1922. He was raised by his mother, Rhoda Snelson and step-father Al Snelson. Jim graduated from William Chrisman High School, and did under graduate work at the University of Missouri. He served in the Coast Guard as a pharmacist mate on the USS Bisbee, during World War II, from April 1944 until being discharged in July of 1945.
Jim was a construction superintendent for Barton Malow and retired in 1984. He settled in VA but was living in Carmel, In at the time of his death.
Jim was preceded in passing by his mother, step-father, and sister Mary E. Smith. Survivors include his partner and best friend of 55 years, Richard Holden, Frank and Barbara LaPlante, Dean LaPlante, Eric LaPlante and Ryan LaPlante.
Jim was a member of SAR and VFW, Independence, MO.
Burial was held November 22, 2016 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis, IN. Arrangements were made with Indiana Funeral Care.
